The basic premise of the game is to be dealt cards adding up to 21. Every gambler is assigned 2 cards. When a player is handed a nine or lower value card and an Ace they’ve been given a soft hand. When the gambler receives no Ace cards it is known as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been dealt all players at the blackjack table, including the dealer, each gambler is given the chance to make 1 of 6 decisions:

Requesting another card (Hit): When a black jack player says hit me the dealer will deal them another card, if the addition of that card makes the total greater than 21 the black jack player will have busted and that is the end of the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to 21 the black jack player is the winner and if the total has not yet achieved 21 they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been dealt: If a black jack player is happy with the cards they will hold. Once this has happened the dealer will reveal his/her hand and the gambler who has gotten 21 or the nearest to 21 will win.

Doubling Down: A blackjack player might request to double down which doubles the wager they have made. As soon as you have taken this procedure you can only receive 1 more card. The specifics of doubling down are often specified by the table or betting house rules so before gambling make sure you are familiar with the house game rules.
